Live Music with The Brazilian Project

The most important thing is to understand our goal. We want people smiling and tapping their feet. When we see that, we know the music is working.
Music Type:
Brazilian Jazz.
Brazilian jazz is all about groove. It’s mostly danceable, if you can samba. Harmonies tend to be smoother sounding than modern American jazz (to us, anyway). The music is highly melodic.
The band’s repertoire is about 200 arrangements.
We play Bossa Novas (e.g. Jobim’s Corcovado, Wave and One Note Samba), some with vocals).
We play sambas by Joao Bosco, Joao Donato, Johnny Alf, Luis Bonfa, Baden Powell, Airto and others. Tunes include Ceu e Mar, Muito A Vontade, Samba De Orfeo, Vera Cruz, to name a few.
We play styles from the Northeast of Brazil – which includes some rocking Brazilian country dance music. Tunes include O Fole Roncou, Mirante Do Vale, and Eu So Quero Um Xodo. Composers include Luis Gonzaga, Hermeto Pascoal and Dominguinhos. We play a few Xote (various composers) and Afoxe.
We also cover the current wave of Brazilian masters, including Toninho Horta, Chico Pinheiro, Lea Freire and Jovino Santos Neto. We even have a few choros, mostly by Guinga.
Our repertoire also includes our own compositions in these styles.
