Music Type:
The Backorders play pop/folk/rock along the lines of Buffalo Springfield, Death Cab For Cutie and Love with classical, blues and a hint of the ol’ avant-garde.
The ever-evolving Backorders play the music of long-time Oakland-East Bay DIY Indie legend Sparky Grinstead, who has been releasing his music on his own label, Sparlene Records, and performing around the Bay Area for the last few decades. His latest release, titled “Grimace’, is a typically quirky concept piece about the foibles of relationships. The Backorders have been performing songs from Grimace mixed in with other Sparky songs and some choice covers by his musical heroes, The Beatles, Vic Chesnutt, and others. Sparky has a strong Bay Area following and does not play out often (although that seems to be changing lately!). The current Backorders lineup came together for the release party for the “Grimace” album and liked each other so much they stayed together! Featuring two singers and Sparky on acoustic guitar, the group also features keys, lead guitar bass and drums. Several Backorders are members of Albany’s popular “HOOT!” community.
